Common name:Japanese Cryptomeria
Botanical name:Cryptomeria japonica
This Cryptomeria will, in cultivation, become an evergreen that is conical or pyramidal in shape with a straight, central leader. It typically has a narrow crown of pyramidal branches and foliage that is aromatic, dense, and awl-shaped.
The reddish, shredding bark of this, Japan's national tree, is particularly attractive, and its foliage may change to a brown-purplish tone during the cold weather. It combines well with other broadleaf evergreen shrubs.
