This Cryptomeria will, in cultivation, become an evergreen that is conical or pyramidal in shape with a straight, central leader. It typically has a narrow crown of pyramidal branches and foliage that is aromatic, dense, and awl-shaped.
The reddish, shredding bark of this, Japan's national tree, is particularly attractive, and its foliage may change to a brown-purplish tone during the cold weather. It combines well with other broadleaf evergreen shrubs.

This ornamental perennial grass grows 4-6' tall x 1-1.5' wide and has semi-evergreen foliage that is green in spring and summer and turns green/brown in fall. The flowers bloom in mid June and emerge a light green but quickly turn to pink/purple.

Provide a medium amount of watering and more during hot summer months.
