Maintain a two to four inch layer of mulch on the soil surface to reduce weeds, infiltrate rain water, and reduce compaction.
Make sure ponds and water features aren't leaking, splash out is minimized, and water for streams and waterfalls is recirculated.Keeping water surface areas small and partially shaded will also reduce evaporation.
Develop healthy soil for plants that are vigorous and naturally pest-resistant.
