Cryptomeria japonica
Japanese Cryptomeria
Description
This Cryptomeria will, in cultivation, become an evergreen that is conical or pyramidal in shape with a straight, central leader. It typically has a narrow crown of pyramidal branches and foliage that is aromatic, dense, and awl-shaped. The reddish, shredding bark of this, Japan's national tree, is particularly attractive, and its foliage may change to a brown-purplish tone during the cold weather. It combines well with other broadleaf evergreen shrubs.

Consider replacing some lawn areas with groundcovers, trees, and shrubs.
Good candidates for removal are portions of large lawns, areas where no one uses the grass, patches that don't grow well, or spaces too small to water without overspray.
